About Us

As a native New Yorker and the youngest of 3 children, owner James Hirtenstein, was driven by a highly competitive nature from an early age and learned to problem solve on the streets of Manhattan. Never one for the corporate life, James constantly had an eye out for the next needed “thing.” Launching, his first company at 24 (a child safety company), taught him to foster relationships across industry lines and all walks of life. James was also founding member of the International Association for Child’s Safety (IACS), which still exists today.

His second company (a children’s apparel line) followed 15 years later and in 2011 he launched Main Street Drivers, on the eastern end of Long Island as an alternative local transportation and designated driver service utilizing his client’s vehicle’s instead of his own. James identified the need for this type of service in burgeoning wine regions around the country where the only transportation services that existed were expensive tour buses and pricey limousines. Main Street Drivers provides an economical solution not only saving his clients money, but keeps them safer on the road, and makes their excursions much more personal.

Main Street Drivers currently operates in 6 regions around the country and will be launching 2 more locations in Spring 2023. Nearly every year since its inception, Main Street Drivers has been awarded Best Driving Service in multiple markets.

James currently splits his time between Trumansburg, NY on the FLX wine trail where he enjoys many of the outdoor attractions the Finger Lakes are known for and Williamsburg, Brooklyn, where he stays current on all of the latest food trends, with his partner Ali and Charlie, their King Charles Cavalier.
